AUCTION COMMENTS

We planned to have a July 2008 auction but changed it to May 2008 because of the NAWCC
National Convention being held June 11-14, in Springfield, Missouri. That will give our buyers
an opportunity to pick up their clocks in Lexington on their way to or from the
Convention, or they can arrange for Joe Brewer to bring their clocks to Springfield.
Jim Newman, a long time collector (NAWCC #12348) from Prescott, AZ, will be in
Springfield for the meeting and will deliver clocks West along Interstate 40 on his return
home. Buyers living near Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Phoenix,
and Prescott, can meet Jim along I-40 and collect their clocks. Southern California and southern
Nevada buyers may pick up their clocks in Prescott. Call Jim Newman at 928-925-9435
        to make arrangements.

This catalog contains a large number of early American clocks, probably the finest and
largest group of early clocks since 2003 when we sold the Missouri and Kansas doctors’ collections.
We were not able to include all of the clocks in this auction so the remainder will
be in the September 2008 auction. This catalog and next includes the A. Lee Smith collection
of almost 200 early clocks, and several rare early American clocks from a Houston collector.
In our warehouse awaiting their turn, is a collection of 200 excellent, middle and upper line
American shelf and wall clocks; a collection of 175 French clocks including statuary, crystal
regulators, and wall clocks. We also have a collection of over 150 rare clocks that were
purchased from Sotheby’s and Christie’s Auctions over a 30 year period by an Oklahoma
City couple, plus other rare and unusual pieces they bought overseas. I have been struggling
with that collection for almost two years trying to catalog them for a future auction, but I have
no reference material to help me with the descriptions of the many unusual clocks, primarily
small French and Swiss desk clocks, and other rare clocks, such as a 16th century Dutch
table clock. I considered sending them to Sotheby’s and/or Christie’s but I decided our customers
should have an opportunity to buy them. We hope to get as many as possible in the
September 2008 Auction, the remainder in January 2009.
I hope you find some things of interest in this auction.
