Welch, Spring & Co. "Drop
Octagon No. 2", ca 1878. This
slant bottom style, 25" high
rosewood veneered case is in
very good condition, no veneer
chips
or
repairs
showing.
Carved ears each side, inlaid
veneer
border
around
the
extremities, and it has the origi-
nal glass in the lower access
door. The brass bezel and lower
door both have latches. The cal-
endar dial was replaced many
years ago, and the three hands
are correct. 8 day brass move-
ment is running and striking on
a coil gong. There are extra
holes in the movement area, per-
haps new mounting blocks, and
a possibility that the unsigned
movement is not original, although it is identical to the style used in this
model. When there are extra holes I begin to doubt my judgment. For this
minimum it is a superb clock. Ly-Welch, page 118. $250-$400.

New Haven Clock Co. "12-Inch
Drop Octagon, Calendar", ca 1900.
Eight day, time, strike, and calendar
model schoolhouse clock, running,
striking, and calendar operating
properly. This clock is much like my
very first clock, and still one of my
favorite clocks. My wife paid $375
for my first NH schoolhouse clock
in the early 1970's, and it was not
nearly as nice as this near perfect
model. The only imperfection is
some flaking on the dial. The rose-
wood veneer is nearly perfect, the
glasses, hands, pendulum, latches,
and everything else is original and
near perfect. The label inside is as
nice as the clock. Ly-New Haven
#274. $300-$400.

Junghans Clock Co. box regulator.
Perfect oak case is 24" high, clean and
polished. There are four glasses in the
door, three beveled glasses in the bottom
half. Viewing doors each side of the
movement and two door latches. Slide in
seat board mounted, 8 day movement,
running and bim-bam striking on the
quarter hours. Replaced paper dial on the
original pan, correct hands, correct brass
bob with wood stick, metal beat scale,
and an old signed, winding key. Other
than a new paper dial this clock is all
original. $200-$300.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. "Column
Shell",
ca
1863.
Rosewood
veneered case is 25" tall, shell
columns with gilt capitals and
bases. The case is very dirty, origi-
nal dirty, never cleaned but the
columns appear much nicer than
the rosewood. There are some small
veneer chips or scrapes, but smoke
on the rosewood is the main culprit.
Excellent original lower tablet and
an original upper glass. Painted
zinc dial has some paint loss
around the chapter ring and the
winding arbors. Correct hands, iron
weights, pendulum bob, and wind-
ing crank. Complete paper label
reads in part, "Seth Thomas, /
Plymouth Hollow, Conn.". A 30
hour brass movement is signed, "S.
Thomas / Plymouth, Conn. /
U.S.A.". Ly-Seth Thomas #1750. $150-$250.

New Haven Clock Co. "Small
Drop Octagon, R.C.", ca 1880. An
early octagon drop that some call a
"schoolhouse" clock. The un-
signed movement is held with
blocks, the plates are held with
pins. It is an 8 day movement that
is running and striking hours on a
coil gong. Inside also is a com-
plete paper label and a correct
brass bob. The paper dial is dark
and very old but I am inclined to
think it was replaced many moons
ago. The hands and glasses seem
to be original. The mahogany
veneered case is only 17" tall, has
original gilt molding around the
octagon top and lower door glass.
Overall this is an excellent origi-
nal clock. Ly-New Haven #628.

$150
Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator,
"Dorval", ca 1914. Overall a very nice
little clock, standing only 9" high. All
four beveled glasses are good, front
and back doors have correct knobs,
original pendulum has a small break
on one vial near the bottom, no harm.
Correct key, hands, and signed porce-
lain dial. There is a small chip at the
right wind arbor. Eight day movement
is signed, running, and striking the
hanging gong on hours and half hours.
Brass case is polished, clean, and
bright. Ly-Ansonia #375. $200-$300.
