Horton's Antique Clocks
617.
$100
Seth Thomas Clock Co. 30-hour, strike,
weight, O.G., ca 1863. Rosewood case is
25" high, a tiny chip on the base, a small
veneer repair bottom left, a gouge mark
on the right side that is stained over and
not unsightly. Basically his is a beautiful
rosewood veneered case. Glasses are
original, the bottom glass has been poor-
ly rebacked as there is some paint
slopped on the strips holding the glass.
Very nice original painted dial, period
hands, brass bob, and iron weights.
Missing only the suspension, an easy fix
even I can do. The seat board mounted
brass movement is signed, complete with
weight cords, and with a suspension
should run with no problems. Inside is a
complete paper label, reading in part, "Seth Thomas, / Plymouth Hollow,
Conn.". Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 650-654. $150-$300.

$100
Early triple decker case "as found", 8 day
strap brass two weight movement, painted
dial, gong, and one original glass, ca 1835.
The 32.5" high rosewood veneered case
has some hurts, i.e. small veneer chips,
piece of side molding on top is broken and
missing, gilt columns are dirty and have
scratches, and will need to be repainted.
The bottom glass is intact but should be
repainted or replaced, the outline of the
original painting is in place. One move-
ment holder/weight chute divider is loose,
will need to be nailed to the backboard.
The strap brass movement is unsigned but
is typical of the early 8 day strap brass
movements all the companies were using
at the time. The painted dial is slightly
bent, an east fix, and period hands are in
the case. Old iron gong base with coil
gong. With a few repairs, this can be a nice old clock again. $200-$300.

"Daniel Pratt, Jr. / Reading,
Mass.", thirty hour wood
movement mantle clock, ca
1832. Mahogany veneered column and
splat case has unusual paw feet, good
veneer all over, perhaps a small chip here
and there, no stenciling on the splat or
columns. Good inside paper label, iron
bell, very nice wood dial, but no hands or
weights. The case is 33.75" high, key lock
with brass escutcheon, no key. The move-
ment was loose in the case, it appears to
be the early Terry type, you can figure out
by enlarging the picture. We believe the
movement has all its wheels and acces-
sories, no broken teeth, and is opera-
tional. Original top glass, there is no glass
in the bottom. $150-$300.

New Haven Clock Co. crystal reg-
ulator, "Theta", ca 1917. They
made two styles of the Theta
model, this one is the smaller ver-
sion standing 13" high. Solid
mahogany case has the original
finish, dark and crazed. It does not
need to be cleaned. It has two
beveled glasses in front, the one
over the silver dial is bowed. The
dial is signed, slightly worn, hands
are correct. The back glass is a
door that covers the entire back
side. Two jar imitation mercury
pendulum. 8 day movement is
running and striking the large
standing gong one time on the
hours. Rack and snail needs to be
adjusted to get the correct strike.
Ly-New Haven #383. Booked for $500 ten years ago. $200-$300.

German bracket clock with an
8 day Westminster Chime
movement. The large one
piece brass dial is 10.5" by
7.5", has etched designs all
over. The white dial ring and
subsidiary
dial
rings
are
painted white but are actually
part of the one piece of brass.
The numerals, chapter rings,
and subsidiary dials, are also
etched in the brass and filled
with black paint. All four
hands, key lock on the case
side, large winding key, and
large beveled door glass, are
all original. The back door
has a brass screen, cloth cov-
ered, and a lock that is not
complete. The knob on the back door is a satisfactory replacement. Inside
is a large solid plate brass movement, signed; "Kienzel / Patented in all
Countries / Made In / Germany". Plays Westminster chimes, 5 hammers
on 5 rods. One spring is broken or the click is not holding. The pendulum
is not correct and the suspension will need some attention before the
movement will operate properly. Nice mahogany case is 16.5" high, is
complete and original and has four turned feet. $200-$350.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. "Column
Rosewood", ca 1863. Thirty hour,
strike, weight clock. The rosewood
case is 25" high and typically has
some veneer repairs and small chips
around the top and base, of which
most are visible in the photograph.
The glasses are original, some flaking
on the bottom glass, good dial also
with minor flaking of the paint, cor-
rect hands, pendulum bob and iron
weights. Two movements in this
clock, brass 30 hour, 2 weight move-
ment, striking a coil gong, and an
alarm movement, striking an iron
bell. The movement is seat board
mounted, has good weight cords, and
a near perfect, complete, backboard
paper label. Ly-Seth Thomas, page
521. $200-$300.
