Silent Auction July 2009

$2500
Ansonia Clock Co. "Banjo No.3", ca 1924.
The same height as the No.2 at 40½", but
deeper and much heavier, I suppose because
it has a large Westminster quarter hour
chime movement inside. Ansonia said it
strikes "on Melodious True-Toned Rods".
The dial on this clock is not as clean and
sharp as the two previous as it has some
grime and tiny scratches. The hands, eagle,
and side ornaments are all correct. The bot-
tom glass in this clock is different from the
bottom glasses in the No.1 and No.2 above.
This glass is beveled and very decorative
and feels on the back side like cut glass. I
must assume it is a replacement glass, but
how and where someone found a glass so
similar, I cannot imagine. We sold a very
nice No. 3 in the October 2005 auction for
near $8000. Ly-Ansonia #98. $2500-$3500.

$1300
Seth Thomas Clock Co.
hanging clock, "Lobby
14
Inch",
ca
1896.
Outstanding 30½" oak
case is clean, polished,
and all original. There
is some very nice wood
work on the case, carv-
ings,
applied
orna-
ments, railings, etc. The
only thing not original
on the clock is the dial
paint. The base coat of
white paint on the pan
is fine, but the gold
numerals do not do any-
thing for me. They are
difficult for me to see
and you will notice that
they do not stand out in
the picture. Definitely
not Dial House quality.
All three hands are cor-
rect, same with the pen-
dulum and the signed brass beat scale. Signed 15 day time only movement
is running correctly, and retains the Geneva locks. Ly-Seth Thomas, page
342. Booked for $2250 five years ago. $1500-$2000.

$1600
Waterbury Clock Co. hanging clock,
"Dresden", ca 1915. Oak case, 51"
high, original crusty finish, darkened
over time but has a clean polished
appearance, not smoky black like many.
Original top, base, finials, and old door
glass. Labels on the back and one
inside. Very nice two piece porcelain
dial, good Waterbury hands, and brass
rings. Correct brass bob and wood
stick, and a signed porcelain beat scale.
Thirty day time only movement is
signed and running. Clock is near per-
fect and would be perfect if someone
had taken the time to line up the dial
with original screw holes when it was
removed and put back in place. The dial
and dial board are original to the case
however. Ly-Waterbury #611. $1750-
$2000.

$8000
Set of three Ansonia banjo's as described above. If the bid for item #23 is
