F. Kroeber, New York, mantle
clock, "Vandalia", ca 1878. The
clock is all original and in "as
found" condition, coming to us
with a collection of nice original
clocks. The walnut case has a
smoky/crusty finish, carved wood
top and side pieces, applied button
ornaments, and some nice trim
work around the door. The door
glass is original with only slight
wear, brass bell and signed beat
scale inside. The signed brass and
glass bob is one of Kroeber's spe-
cial pendulums for regulating the
beat of the clock more accurately.
The dial is worn, but is original
and
signed.
One
hand
was
replaced, winding key inside.
About 50% of two paper labels are
still holding on the back. The 8 day movement is signed, running, strik-
ing the bell correctly, and it still has the Geneva locks in place. Ly-
Kroeber, page 340. $300-$500.

F. Kroeber, New York, parlor
clock, "Plymouth", ca 1881. The
books say this model came in
Ebony finish. If this case was
ebony it has been polished off in
places, but still looks ebony or
smoky in other places. The walnut
case is only 15" high, original and
has had no repairs. Gold decorated
buttons on the base has not been
removed, which in my opinion
would have been necessary to
clean the ebony case. There is a
spectacular gold glass in the door
and a very nice two piece porcelain
dial with correct hands. No labels
on the back and no evidence there
ever were any. Correct and original
movement is not signed, is running
and striking a coil gong correctly.
The gong base is signed, black beat scale is signed, and the special beat
adjusting pendulum bob is signed. A really nice clock. Ly-Kroeber, page
327. $300-$500.

Ansonia Clock Company parlor clock
that is unnamed, at least we cannot
locate it in the books. Every auction
we get some really nice and unusual
parlor clocks that we cannot give a
name. This one is 25" high and very
nearly like their "Cuba" model. The
case is all original except for one
small carved piece on the right side of
the door. There are no extra holes any-
where and all the internal parts are
original to the case. There is a signed
beat scale, a special 8 pointed star
pendulum, nickel bell, original two
piece dial, fine door glass, and a
signed 8 day movement. It is running
briskly and striking correctly. There
was never a label on the back or
inside. The backboard, inside, is cov-
ered with black oil cloth type paper.
The clock is an enigma. $300-$500.

"Terry, Downs & Co. / Bristol, CT.
USA", ca 1853-1855. Wood case
painted black, painted gold designs
and mother-of-pearl inlay on the
front. There is no MOP missing. The
gold flowers, vines, and leaves, do
not have real bright colors, but the
paint is all still present, although
dirty. The case is 18.75 inches high,
retains the original glasses, a fine
painted zinc dial, replaced hands,
and an old brass bob. Push button
door release and latching mecha-
nism inside. The door is hinged so
that it swings 180 degrees. The
movement is signed as copied on
line one. It is 8 day and strikes a coil gong on the hours, and is held in the
case on mounting blocks. A very nice early shelf clock by a rare maker.
