$275
German Granddaughter clock, made by the Haller
Clockfactory for export to England, ca about 1930. The
oak case is 52" high, fairly simple but it does have some
small ripple trim and other moldings around the front, and
some carved/grooved applied trim pieces below the dial.
It was made to slightly resemble its larger cousins, the
Grandfather clocks. Note the case is divided into what
appears to be three sections, base, bonnet, and mid sec-
tion. Square silver dial ring, center is wood, square metal
sash with a slightly bowed glass, and original nickel
hands. The dial is signed, "Foreign", which was a require-
ment when being imported into England. The movement
is signed with their trademark, a sunrise, and, "Haller /
Foreign". It has a correct pendulum and key; it is running
and striking quarter hours on five metal rods. CAUTION
I learned years ago, the Granddaughter clocks are top
heavy and must be secured to a wall or something that
will hold it upright. $300-$500.

near identical to no. 406, except it is not signed,

$250
Kienzle bracket clock, ca 1920's. It
has the look of a very expensive
bracket clock but for some reason
the name "Kienzle" does not have
the
same
magical
ring
as
Lenzkirsch or Becker, even though
Kienzle has been in business since
1822. The 18" high mahogany case
has a lot of style, cathedral top,
string of carved leaves and flowers
on top, full columns has carved
capitals, turned bases, and four
turned wood feet. There are some
small veneer chips on the sides of
the base. Beveled glass in the front,
latching door front and back, cloth
and metal covered back door. The
silver dial has some fine etched designs, plain silver inner dial has etched
numerals, black filled, and three original hands. The 8 day movement is
signed, plays Westminster chimes, keeps good time but is sluggish and the
chimes need to be adjusted. One chime rod has been replaced. Large
"Chime-Silent" dial on top. The pendulum is correct for this movement
and the wind key is signed, "KS" and original to the clock. Now that is
rare. The "KS" could stand for Kienzle Schwenningen, Kienzle Sphinx,
or Kienzle Silentium, all Kienzle trademarks. $300-$500.

E. N. Welch Mfg. Co. "Parisian", ca
1885. Good 24" high walnut case,
clean and polished, with some light
crazing remaining. The case has
lightened over time so some polish
with walnut stain would help the
wood considerably. Everything is
original on the case, the finials and
other ornaments, glass, dial, hands,
and the pressed glass Welch pendu-
lum bob. This clock has an alarm that
rings on a cup bell. The time move-
ment is 8 day and strikes hours on a
Cathedral gong. Just to give the clock
one demerit, the Minerva emblem on
top has been repainted gold. Ly-
Welch #446. $300-$450.
