E. N. Welch Mfg. Co. special pro-
duction clock in a 22.5" high wal-
nut case. It is typical Welch, a very
heavy, well made case with excel-
lent design. They did not spend
money on carvers but the cabinet
maker made out like a bandit.
Grooves and etchings top to bot-
tom, case is clean as a pin, polished
and ready to sit on your mantle.
The movement is 8 day, signed,
running, and striking a Cathedral
gong. Nice Welch cast pendulum,
polished gong base and dial rings.
Original painted dial is very nice,
just a few small paint chips, and
the hands are correct. It has a very
nice original glass. This model for
whatever reason did not get into
the Welch catalogs but was sold by Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. in
their1890 catalog, at a wholesale price of $225. They were Chicago's
leading hardware store from 1882 on. There was once a label on the back.
Was it Welch's or Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett's? Ehrhardt, "Clock
Identification and Price Guide", page 163. $300-$500.

Ansonia Clock Co. fig-
ure
clock,
"Shakespeare",
ca
1894.
Complete
and
original black enameled
iron case and metal
accessories. There is no
finish on the statue,
clock tower, and other
ornaments. Some of our
iron collectors like them
bare, while others sand
blast them to prepare to
put on a finish of their
choice. The case is 15"
high and 17.5" wide. The beveled glass, sash, two piece porcelain dial,
hands, and the open escapement, are all original and very nice. The 8 day
movement is signed, running, striking a cathedral gong on half hours. The
back door is original and correct. Depending on condition we have sold
this model upwards of $1000. Ly-Ansonia #515. $300-$500.

clock,
"Sicily", ca 1894. This is
the first of this model we

on the ends, sea serpents,
Mafia in disguise, or some-
thing. The case is 17" wide
and 11" high, complete with all its parts, externally and internally, includ-
ing a beveled glass, two piece porcelain dial, hands, and open escapement.
Metal back door, pendulum, 8 day movement is signed, running, and

Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator,
"Crown", ca 1914. The square box
holding the four beveled glasses is pol-
ished brass. Was polished, now dull.
The ornaments on the base, around the
top, and the urn, are said to be "rich
gold ornaments". Again, not very rich
now, they are dull and dirty. All four
glasses have one tiny corner chip each,
the kind you have to look close to find.
The case is 15.5" high, complete, and
original, but sure needs cleaning and
polishing. Correct imitation mercury
pendulum, and a two prong winding
key. Two piece porcelain dial, is origi-
nal, signed two places, couple of faint
hairlines, correct hands, and an open
escapement. The 8 day movement is
signed,
running,
and
striking
a
Cathedral gong half hours and hours.
Ly-Ansonia #357. $400-$600.
