Waltham
Clock
Company, Waltham,
Mass.
Miniature banjo clock, ca 1928. Almost an original
clock but is missing the bottom one inch, acorn tip.
Mahogany case is 20" long, undisturbed original
finish, gilt round ball finials on the base, gilt rope
trim around the bottom door and the throat glass,
brass side rails and brass eagle. The eagle is signed,
"W.W.Co. / 173", and the dial is signed,
"Waltham". Two excellent painted glasses, it has a
bowed and beveled glass over the dial. Dial has
painted numerals, markings, and painted original
hands. Eight day movement winds in the bottom of
the case by a long rod extending up to the move-
ment. Ly-American Clocks, Volume 2, page 320;
and Ly-American Clocks, page 248. Always a
sought after clock and has a high book value. $350-
$550.

Miniature German RA. It is 24" high, walnut
with string inlays on the front, applied orna-
ment on top, narrow tail with finial. The finial
looks like it may belong, but the color is not
right. Good glasses on the sides, round door
glass over the dial is cracked, and it is held
with putty in a brass dial ring. The bottom
glass has original putty. The case has some
small repairs, i.e. one veneer patch on the
door, glued joints on the top molding, filled in
cracks, and on a couple of bruises. Not as bad
as I am making out, but is not perfect. As a
comparison I have two miniatures that are very
similar and are perfect, and they should be
worth over $2000 each. Unsigned 8 day move-
ment, porcelain dial and original hands. The
dial has a chip at 3 o'clock. Porcelain and
brass RA bob is nice, movement mounts in a
metal back plate. It is not a $2000 clock, but
could be made a whole lot better than it is.
$400-$600.

French bronze desk clock, ca 1880.
The case is 13" high, elaborately
decorated, seven finials with stars,
seven feet, seven female busts
above the feet, six columns, blue
porcelain inserts matching the
seven blue ball finials. Blue porce-
lain dial has painted subjects in the
center, painted numerals, bronze
hands. The dial has hairline cracks.
I may be stretching my imagination
but it appears to have a Turkish
mid-eastern look. 8 day movement
signed, "Japy Freres", and striking a
nickel bell. The movement also has
a signature of the selling dealer, "F.
Salvani, Paris". Hinged back door
has beveled glass. There is a "cor-
rect type" French pendulum, but not
original to the clock, serial numbers
on pendulum and movement are different. $400-$600.

Stromberg Electric Co. / Chicago
U.S.A.", signed on the dial of this
electrically operated master clock.
It was their Model No. 30 and was
used to provide timing impulses to
all devices on the system. They
guaranteed the Model No.30 to be
accurate within 30 seconds per
month. Included with the original
movement is the correct brass pen-
dulum bob with cast rings, and a
wood stick. In the bottom of the
case is a metal plaque revealing the
model number and the maker. The
dark oak case is 30.5" tall and 21"
wide, complete, original, clean but
not refinished. All parts are original
including the painted dial, three
hands, door lock, and glass. The
clock was made after 1915 and before 1935, when the company was
acquired by the General Time Corp. $450-$550.

A rare and unusual
clock that serves many
purposes. The bright
brass 8 day, time only,
movement is signed,
"Manufd By The /
British United / Clock Co. Limd. /
Birmingham / England". The
unusual oak case has elaborately
carved leaves at the top, and
grooved and etched designs lower
down on the case. There is a draw-
er at the bottom. The case is about
20" tall. Beveled glass in a nice
brass sash. Paper dial ring, proba-
bly a replacement, correct hands,
stamped metal inner dial featuring
a cupid tooting his horn. On the
left side of the case is a working
thermometer and a compass. On the right side is a barometer and a small
clock dial. I do not know its purpose as there is no hand and the brass ring is
missing. It probably matched the ring on the left side. Below the time dial is
a level, and along the base is a 12 inch ruler. An original pendulum and key
are included. This is a rare clock that would have a value near $1000 if the
dial were original, and it had the little brass ring. $400-$600.

German wall clock, ca 1910-1920.
Big and heavy, walnut case is 33"
high, 20" wide, clean and original.
Large front door, applied trim
pieces all over, half columns and
other turnings and moldings. A
good looking case but not one you
should ask your wife to hang, it is
bulky and heavy. Eight day brass
movement is running and striking,
has the correct pendulum, and the
movement is signed with the
Junghans "crossed arrows" trade-
mark stamp. There is a small side
access door on the right side. The
brass dial plate is 10.25" square,
brass spandrels on the corners, sil-
ver dial ring attached to the brass
plate, numerals are etched and
painted black. Machine etched
dial center, and a pair of old
hands. $300-$500.
