$600
English carved mahogany case with a
heavy fusee, time only movement.
This is a very unusual case, carved
top to bottom, 28" tall, 17" wide,
mirror in the back, three clear glasses
around front and sides. Access door
on the top right side and another in
the bottom. Large and heavy cylinder
pendulum with metal rod. There is a
selling dealers label on the upper
access door, that reads in part, "A.
Kuss & Co. / Clock & Watchmakers
/ Newcastle", and other addresses
and numbers, some of which may
date the clock, 1881. The painted
iron dial is also signed. The top name
can be deciphered given some effort,
the bottom word is "Newcastle". In
typical English fashion the top,
including the bezel, dial, and move-
ment, are pegged to the case box. This is as nice as any clock we have
seen of this style. $750-$1500.

Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. "Columbia",
ca 1901. We do not remember ever see-
ing this model with a calendar. For that
matter we do not remember every see-
ing this model with new finials, new
carved top ornaments, or a new glass,
but here it is. Not a bad looking clock,
the replacement parts got by me when I
listed it for a previous auction but after
it was called to my attention I can see
the problems. The carvings, etc. are
well done but no one can do them like
the factories did in 1900. It has an 8 day
movement, running, and striking a
cathedral gong. There is also a simple
calendar, nice glass, brass beat scale,
brass bob, wood stick, and a signed
Gilbert winding key. The walnut case is
37.5" high, clean, but needs polish. The
two piece paper dial is a replacement
and probably the hands. Good label on
the back. It has a high book value and is
pictured in Ly-Gilbert #361; and Ly-
American #367. $350-$500.

$500
Self Winding Clock Co. New York, a
master clock made for Western Union
use. The dial on this Art Deco style case
is signed, "Naval Observatory Time /
Western Union / Self Winding Clock Co.
New York". The clock is near perfect in
every respect and very appealing to the
eye. The silver/nickel dial, pendulum bob,
and beat scale, are all perfect. Metal tag
on the door identifies the maker and
movement number. There are three oper-
ating labels inside, on the base. The oak
case is 38" high and in near perfect con-
dition. The wood case is heavy, not the
flimsy Western Union store regulator type
wood cases we are accustomed to seeing.
Two good glasses, two key locks on the
door, original hands, and original dial.
This is as good as they come. $750-
$1000.

$350
"Self Winding Clock Co., New
York", a rare size gallery master
clock. The small case is only 13"
square with a 9" painted metal
dial. Filling the small case
behind the dial is their vibrator
movement and all the wires and
other paraphernalia needed to
operate this master clock. The
movement is in good running
order. The case is very heavy for
its size, made of 5/8" thick
mahogany or some dark wood. It
has a key locking door, original
glass and hands, original painted dial signed properly, and the correct
brass bob and wood stick. Because it is a heavy hanging clock it has a
heavy duty iron hanging bracket. $400-$600.

$425
Self Winding Clock Co. master clock,
Model 18-A, ca 1910, made for use by
Western Union. Perfect silver dial is
signed, "Naval Observatory Time /
Western Union / Self Winding Clock Co.
New York". The clock is in near perfect
condition, all parts original to the case,
two good glasses, no repairs, but has been
cleaned/polished, and looks beautiful. The
brass bob was polished, wood stick is cor-
rect, and the brass beat scale is correct.
This clock has an unusual feature, a button
on the door used to synchronize the clock
manually which eliminated having to sub-
scribe for the wire service. The clock
movement is in good running order. The
books say this model was made of oak and
birch, if that is true then this case is birch,
dark and stained with red mahogany stain.
The substantially constructed case is 41"
high, has two door locks, is very heavy,
and is a typical Seth Thomas case, that is
to say, well made. Ly-American Clocks, Volume 2, #750. $500-$750.

$350
Self Winding Clock Co. a very rare
time element master clock, used by
Western Union offices in combination
with a time stamp for messages
received or sent by the wire services.
The well constructed oak case is 28"
high and 18" wide, simple, no frills,
but is clean and very attractive. The
painted and signed dial has an oblong
cut-out within the seconds dial,
to
view the movement. The three hands
are original, polished brass bob has
Seth Thomas damascene designs,
original wood stick, good glass, and
two door locks. The brass movement
is mounted to a large iron mounting
bracket. $450-$650.
