Ansonia Clock Co. figure clock,
"Music", ca 1894. One of the more
poplar of Ansonia's standing fig-
ures, she is usually seen with the
statue "Poetry", as a double statue
clock. The metal case is 22" wide,
19" high, complete and all original
except for the finish on the metal.
More than likely it would have
been Japanese Bronze originally,
but now the finish is dark silver or
gun metal. It is very attractive as is,
or ready for you to put on a finish
of your choice. There is good gold
in the etched designs on the black
enameled base. The two piece
porcelain dial has one small chip,
the hands are correct, nice beveled glass in the sash, and an open escapement
in the dial center. The hinged back door and pendulum are original. Movement
is 8 day, clean, signed, running, and striking a standing gong on hours and half
hours. Parts of the urn on top are brass. Ly-Ansonia #502. $900-$1200.

Three Horn Trumpeter, an unusual
and difficult to find Black Forest
clock. The carved case is 23" high,
17" wide, complete with bird and
leaves on the front, no dead animals,
original back with a coil gong, original
trumpeter, old chains, weights and bob.
Missing are the horns and tin pipes. Lyre
brass movement held with nuts would be
circa 1890-1900. If complete this clock
would be expected to bring $2000. There
are artisans that can make the horns and
pipes. Hands are replacements, not sure
about the numerals, but they are probably
replacements also. Minor repairs on a
couple of the leaves. Reference: "Black
Forest Clocks", by Rick Ortenburger,
Chapter 9. $500-$1000.

Rolling Ball Bearing Crystal Regulator, or
Ferris Wheel Crystal Regulator. This is a
copy of an old French clock. The French
government gave a copy of an original to
the last Emperor of China, around 1900. It
is pictured in the "Palace Museum Clocks
of the Forbidden City", page 244, which is
a full page color picture. The clock has an
eight day platform weight driven move-
ment, and it is in excellent running condi-
tion. This is a mechanical clock that never
needs winding. 2 inch ball bearings are
loaded into the ferris wheel that provides
the power to run the clock. The case is 22"
high; gold plated, and weighs 50 pounds
with the balls in place. It has a porcelain dial
with floral designs, and a visible escape-
ment just under the "12". The clock also has
a barometer just under the time dial, and a
thermometer just off to the left of the
barometer. Both dials have jewels around
the edge. It has thick beveled glass on four sides, doors front and back. To run
the clock you place the 15 large balls into the top "tray" under the Lion, in a
designated channel. They line up and work their way thru the channel and into
the paddles of the ferris wheel, and slowly make their way to the bottom where
they fall into a drawer in the base of the clock. You manually remove the balls
and put them under the Lion. The clock is running, we do not regulate the clock
for accurate timekeeping. We have sold several of this model over the years, one
bringing $3000. This is a very special clock and we have kept one in our office
since they were first introduced about 5 years ago. $1500-$2500.

Bronze French Cartel clock, ca 1895. The 8
day, time only movement, is signed, "P.
Grenon / France / Two.2 Adjustments / 13.
Thirteen / Jewels". The cast bronze case is
22" high, 12.5" wide, signed, "France", and
in excellent condition. The gilt is clean and
bright. Bowed and beveled glass in the
machined bronze sash, bowed porcelain dial
is signed, "Made In France". Painted numer-
als for hours and minutes, pair of delicate
and expertly pierce French gold hands. The
original balance is running. $750-$1000.

$500
German shelf cuckoo, double
chain fusee, ca 1885. An early
case and movement with minor
restoration. The movement, bird,
bellows, and all the internal parts
are working properly. We know it runs at
least 5-6 days, and I feel it is an 8 day
cuckoo, but I do not wind chain fusee
movements all the way. The unusual case
with all its pointed and brittle pieces, most
likely has had some restoration, but if it
has, we cannot detect it. The pendulum is
one used in many cuckoos made in the late
1800's. The movement and pendulum
have matching serial numbers, and along
with the case, are all of the same period.
The bird may well be original to the case, we cannot be sure. The bird's
wings and beak move when he cooks. The hands and numerals are white
so we would assume were added later. $650-$1000.

Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn
case, "La Layon", ca 1904. This
Royal Bonn case is one of the
very large cases standing 14.5"
high and is 15" wide. We have
owned this clock for many years
and with thousands of clocks
coming in and out of the house,
this is one my wife kept in our
bedroom for many years. It is a
very colorful case, has differing
shades of green, some painted
roses and leaves on the front and
sides, and some tastefully done,
gold striping. The clock case is
near perfect, is clean and sparkling. It is a very stylish case with handles
on the sides, and has reeds and flowers on the sides that are molded into
the case, as well as being highlighted with gold. The beveled glass, sash,
open escapement, correct hands, and the two piece signed porcelain dial,
are all near perfect. It has a correct metal back cover, pendulum, key, and
8 day signed movement that is running and striking a Cathedral gong on
half hours and hours. Ly-Ansonia, pages 636-637. It has always had a
high book value and been a poplar clock with collectors. $750-$1000.
