Horton's Antique Clocks

$1700
Animated Quarter Repeater pocket
watch, ca 1875. It has a plunge
repeater with double animation as it
is striking. The animation is a man
and woman on the front of the
watch, striking bells. When the
plunge repeater is activated they
strike the bells repeating the last
hour and also quarter hours. The
watch is complete, operating prop-
erly, striking the hours and repeats
the hours and quarters on demand.
The front is very interesting with its
two figures swinging the hammers.
The watch case is marked 18K and
has some hallmarks inside the back
lid. The movement has some identi-
fication but I am not sure if it is a
trademark or just letters and num-
bers. The movement is running and performing its functions properly. The
back of the case has etched designs all over and the front has a bowed
crystal. The case is just over 3" high and 2.25" wide. The porcelain watch
dial is one inch, has three gold hands, the hours marked in Roman, and
minutes marked in Arabic. To set the hands you move a small lever on the
case edge which allows you to turn the crown. If you look close you can
see the silver tooled matte finished background on the front. We have seen
these rare animated repeaters sell for thousands of dollars. $2000-$3000.

a large clock, stands
40.5" high, and has an
old glass in the door,

original

nice

oak
blush, and is ready to
hang in your home or

ing for a rare and
excellent

catalogs
report that this model
has a "cabinet finish",
which generally means
it has a
finish like
expensive
furniture.
The movement is 8 day, half hour and hour gong strike, and is running,
striking, and calendar changing, and original to this case. In the last ten
years we know of only one No.28 selling at auction. Ly-Waterbury #272.

"Union Clock

a
German shelf
clock with ani-
mated pendu-
lum, ca 1890.
The pendulum
depicts
a

the pendulum swings his
arm moves up and down
pumping air to the forge.

tall.

The case is very decora-
tive, primarily black but
with some green and
gold for accent. Full

machined dial rings, hands and key. The dial board and inside of case is

Seth Thomas Clock Co. "8 Day
Parlor Calendar", ca 1863. This
old calendar clock is as original as
I have seen. I doubt if anything
has ever been done except the fin-
ish lightly cleaned. There are sev-
eral service notations on the
labels, but you cannot see any
repairs or problems that jump out
at you. I did find some veneer
glued down, some tiny chips on
the edges, particularly the octagon
openings over the dials. Both dials
and the roller papers are original,
hands, gong, pendulum bob, and
perhaps the old winding crank.
All the movements are original
and signed, movement strung
with old catgut, possibly original,
and it has broken and will have to
be restrung. Original reverse
painted glass in the center and two
original iron weights. Excellent label inside, some missing in the weight
chutes. Large sellers label on the back of the middle glass, selling date
April 6, 1866. Mahogany veneered case is 36.5" high, door lock with key,
and the lock is working. Ly-Calendar #628. $1500-$2000.
