Horton's Antique Clocks
75G.
$1200
Waterbury Clock Co. hanging clock,
"Quebec", ca 1881. Original finish on this
fine 42" high walnut case. It is a rare
model, one that I cannot find where one has
ever sold. There are two small flakes/chips,
one on the top, one on the bottom, neither
of which you can see, and really not worth
mentioning. It has an 8 day movement that
is running and striking the Cathedral gong.
Excellent original dial, hands, pendulum
ball, and wood stick. The case has some
carved pieces, several areas of deep
grooved designs, and many pieces of fancy
wood trim. The finials are old and turned
correctly, but they do have new dowels.
Ly-Waterbury #596. $1400-$1700.

Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co.
"Regulator No. 18", ca 1901.
It was 30 years before we saw
our
first
No.18,
(Silent
Auction August 2008 #28
Sold for $8265) and now we
have a second one, just as
nice, maybe nicer, for these
mercury jars are original. The
case
has
been
rubbed
out/polished, sometime in the
past. It is clean inside and
out, all original and com-
plete, and ready to hang in
your home or office. The wal-
nut case is 78" high, 22.5"
wide, with glass sides, and is
a great size for modern
homes or offices. We can find
no evidence of past repairs or
replaced parts, and all inter-
nal parts are original to the
clock. We consider this qual-
ity clock fine enough to hang
in our living room, den, or
great room, and that is where
it will go if it does not sell.
The glass, latches, finials,
brass weight, beat scale, and
pendulum, are all correct and
original to this clock. We did
not put the mercury in the
jars for the picture. Perfect
porcelain dial, three hands,
pulley, and all movement
parts are near perfect. The
movement is 8 day, one
weight, time only, dead beat
escapement, retaining power,
sweep second, and a mercur-
ial compensating pendulum
with mercury in three cut
glass jars. The weight and
pulley are correct for this
clock. The clock has been
hanging in a collectors home
for a long time, has been ser-
viced regularly and well maintained, and is running and keeping excellent
time. Ly-American Clocks, Volume 2, #363. $7500-$10,000.

Boardman

Hubbell shelf
calendar clock,
ca 1865, with
two
great
labels.
The
large
paper
label
on
the
back
and
an
identical paper
label
inside,
reads in part,
"Improved
Calendar,
/
Patented By Hubbell &
Boardman, July 2d, 1867 /
Manufactured By / Jerome
& Co., New Haven, Conn.
U.S.A.".
The
calendar
rollers are in good condi-
tion, and are powered by a
small spring that is wound
with a key from outside the
case on the right side. A wire from the time movement trips the calendar
once each day. The 8 day, double spring, time only lever movement, is
signed, "L. Hubbell", with the patent dates. The 16.5" high rosewood case
is in "as found" condition, smoky/dirty, has not been cleaned or polished.
Two full turned columns on the front, a door latch, and two excellent orig-
inal glasses with lots of good gold paint. The zinc dial has the original
paint with a few paint chips. For its age it is excellent. The case is miss-
ing two pieces of molding on the top-sides. The 8 day movement is run-
ning but service would be advisable if you plan to run it regularly. Ly-
Calendar, page 34. Book value consistently runs about $5000. We sold
one in our May 2007 Auction, clock #10, for $4000. $2000-$3000.

Self Winding Clock Co. "Regulator
No.18", ca 1898. In the early years
Self Winding bought cases and move-
ments from Seth Thomas and added
various attachments to the cases and
movements in their own factory. This
50" oak case is identical to the Seth
Thomas Clock Co. Regulator No.30
case. This master clock has their
vibrator movement that is in good run-
ning order. The painted metal dial,
hands, pendulum bob, wood stick, and
beat scale, are all the same kind of
stock used in the Seth Thomas clocks.
There are two door locks, two glasses,
and all the applied and carved orna-
ments that would be found on a per-
fect clock case. The dial is signed,
"Self Winding Clock Co. / New York".
