Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. mantle clock, "Rocket", ca
1881. This is a very nice 15.5" high rosewood veneered
case, gold stripe around the door, and only
one unfortunate veneer nick that
shows, it on the upper front, left,
Brass door knob, brass pendulum,
and a large brass bell. The move-
ment is an 8 day runner, striking the
hours on the bell. Good painted
dial, hands, and two good glasses in
the door. Ly-Gilbert #1063. $100-
$200.

E. N. Welch Mfg. Co. 8 day OG, ca 1880. Rare two
door mahogany veneered case is 30" high, has two
good glasses, two original door
knob/latches, and generally good
veneer all over. There have been
some veneer repairs, all well
made, no big boo boo's jumping
out at you. A case you can live
with. If it were perfect we would
be asking considerable more
money. Large brass movement is
signed, "E. N. Welch / Forestville,
CT / U.S.A.", and the patent date is
also stamped. Very good painted
dial, old hands, pair of 8 day iron
weights, old pendulum bob, wind
crank, coil gong, and an alarm movement with a brass
bell. A very decent early OG weight clock with two
unusual features, the alarm and the two doors. Ly-
Welch, pages 171-172. $300-$500.

"J. C. Brown, Bristol, Conn. / Forestville
Manufacturing Company", ca 1842-1849. Brown was
in business with many people during
his long career, but during this peri-
od he made clocks bearing his own
name. This is a plain steeple case,
mahogany veneered, standing 20"
high. Has some ragged veneer on
the bottom board, otherwise is in
good condition. Original tablet has
some wear and missing white paint
in the center, old top glass, Browns
trademark porcelain door knob, good
painted dial that has faded some, and
a couple of chips touched up, and a
good pair of early hands. The blue label is
practically complete, coil gong and brass bob is pol-
ished, and the 8 day brass movement is signed with the
Forestville name. Wind this clock and you do not have
to worry about a fusee movement going haywire or a
wagon spring exploding. This is just a plain, but very
nice, J. C. Brown clock. Everyone should own one J. C.
Brown clock. $250-$500.

Waterbury Clock Co. walnut parlor clock, "Combine,
Calendar", ca 1891. Waterbury made this model sever-
al ways, a hanging model, shelf without a calendar, and
this model with calendar, thermometer,
and barometer. The walnut case is 22"
high, clean, complete and original
wood parts. The thermometer and
barometer are replacements but I
doubt most collectors would
know. All the metal parts are
clean and have been polished. The
glass, dial, hands, and special pen-
dulum, are all original stock. The
nickeled pendulum has the
slow/fast needle indicator. The 8
day movement is signed, running,
and striking on a Cathedral gong.
On the back are two good labels.
Ly-Waterbury #256. $250-$400.

"Brewster & Ingrahams / Bristol, Ct. U.S.", painted on
the original zinc dial of this early 30 hour steeple clock.
It was made around 1844 and after 165
years it is still almost 100% original,
including the complete paper label,
gong, pendulum, hands, both glass-
es, door latch, and the brass move-
ment. All the wood parts are original
and there have been no repairs or
new parts put on the case or the dial.
If you want one early steeple in very
nice condition I highly recommend
this one. The painted glass is signed,
"Barnums' Villa". Reference for this
identical clock is in "Handbook of
Clocks Produced by Charles Kirk,
Elisha C. Brewster, and Brewster & Ingrahams", by
Ultsch and Cowan, pages 46-48. $250-$350.

German Wag, ca 1870. Nice wood ring around the dial,
it appears to be mahogany and is 12" in
diameter. The wood dial is excellent and
is covered by a bowed glass in a brass
sash. Original hands, pendulum bob and
32" wire rod, and pair of old chains.
Wood plates, wheels are brass but wood
pinions on each side of the wheels. Bell on
top, weights are near the type we see on many
wags, but they may not be exact mates. We did
not attempt to run the clock. Nice example of
the early Dial or Shield clock. $150-$250.

E. Ingraham & Co. hanging calendar clock, "Dew
Drop", ca 1909. Exceptionally nice 24" high case that
looks to be walnut but Ingraham calls
it Imitation Rosewood. It has been
cleaned and polished, case is
complete, good glasses, some
touchup on the gold lower
glass. There is a new paper cal-
endar dial on the old pan, good
hands, pendulum bob, and key.
Movement and gong are correct.
Books near $500, but with the
new paper dial worth some less.
Ly-Ingraham #271. $200-$350.

Waterbury Clock Company hanging "Regent", ca 1906.
The company called the wood on this case, "veneered".
Evidently they used any veneer they
had around the shop. It appears to be
mahogany veneer but I am not posi-
tive. There are varying shades of
veneer but from the same log. The
case is 32" high, gold around the
lower glass, glasses original, top door
hinged on the top. That is unusual. Two
good labels on the back, authentic
Waterbury pendulum ball but stick is a
replacement. Signed 8 day, time only,
movement is complete and functional.
Signed beat scale, correct hands, and
signed dial. The dial has the original paint
and is in very nice condition. A very nice inexpensive
wall clock. You will not have to stop it when company
comes. Ly-Waterbury #687. Booked over $600 several
years ago. $250-$400.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. "Column", ca 1863. A beautiful
rosewood veneered case, standing 32.5" high and near
perfect with only a tiny corner
nick or two. The door latches, all
the glasses, and all the wood parts,
are original. The middle mirror has
been rebacked with black paint
instead of silver. Both mirrors have
some silver loss. Remnants of a
label inside, but of little benefit.
There are no weights, pendulum, or
key. The painted dial is good and the
hands are correct. The 8 day move-
ment is lyre shaped and strikes a coil
gong. The movement is signed, "S.
Thomas, / Plymouth, Conn. /
U.S.A.". Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 512-516. $150-$300.

German Wag, ca 1880. Bezel, bowed glass, wood dial,
all very similar to #549. This dial is signed, "Ch Krieg
/ Croydon", I think. If not that, very simi-
lar. The movement is almost identical to
#549, wood plates, brass wheels, wood
pinions each side of the wheels. Bell on
top, old chains, wire pendulum rod, but
missing the thin brass bob. The cuckoo
weights came with the clock, but are not cor-
rect. $150-$250.

$100
Waterbury Clock Co. walnut parlor clock, "Fonda", ca
1890. Clean, complete, and original, walnut case is
21.75" tall, and has an excellent original
glass. The dial pan came with the
clock but has a replaced paper
dial, correct hands, and very
nice nickeled pendulum bob with
slow/fast indicator. This clock
has a separate alarm movement
that rings on a shining nickeled
bell. The clock movement is
signed, and strikes half hours on a
Cathedral gong that is attached to
the nickeled bell. The 8 day
movement is running, striking,
and alarming. All the metal
parts have been polished.
There is a partial label on the
back. Ly-Waterbury #1708. $150-$250.

Label reads, "Time Is Money / Franklin Clocks / With
The Improvement of Bushing The
Pivots With Ivory / Arranged And
Manufactured By / Silas Hoadley, /
Plymouth, Conn.". Complete paper
label covers over half of the back-
board. The label is covered with
plastic to protect it. Bottom painted
glass is original, some paint loss.
Two upper glasses are replacements.
Very nice wood dial, correct hands,
pair of iron weights, brass bob, and
iron bell on top of the 30 hour move-
ment. You can decide by examining
the side picture of the movement if it
is correct for this case, although to
me it appears to be. I did not hang
the weights to the wood movement but I believe it
would run if I did. 36" high mahogany veneered case is
not a cream puff, some veneer chips, but it is complete.
Columns and splat have decent original stenciling. The
door has an ivory escutcheon with key lock, but no key.
Provenance inside the clock indicates the owner paid
$1300 for this clock Nov.1980. $200-$300.
