Horton's Antique Clocks
689.
$275
French crystal regulator, odd
shaped case is 10½" high, ca
1900. Brass case is very
unusual, and I am sure rare. It
has four beveled glasses, the
front and back ones are flat,
although different sizes, while
the side glasses are bowed
inward. There may be one
miniscule corner tic on the
back flat glass or it could just
be grime in the corner. I bet it
would be expensive to have
the side glasses made. One
piece porcelain dial with
painted flowers, numerals,
and minute track with minutes
by fives. The dial is also
signed. Two jar pendulum
with live mercury, and a two
prong key. The French 8 day
movement is round, running,
striking a hanging gong and is
signed, "Japy Freres" and "Made in France". The four corner posts have
large turned caps and bases that extend to the bottom of the feet. $300-$500.

Seth Thomas City Series clock,
"Denver", ca 1884. Factory
stamped on the back "4881J".
Polished walnut veneer case is
16½" high, has the original dark
finish, never cleaned. The clock is
all original except for the pendu-
lum bob. The bob is a ST bob, but
not correct for this model.
Considering its age, the dial is not
bad, it has one "oh shoot" scratch
or flake, at 8:30. There are rem-
nants of a black label inside, the
glass is original and perfect, and
the pendulum hanger and dial rings
are nickeled. 8 day movement is
running strong and striking a
Cathedral gong on the hours. Ly-
Seth Thomas #537-A. $200-$300.

Ansonia Clock Co. enam-
eled iron case, "Rome", ca
1883. This is a large and
very heavy iron cased
clock, and it is 15" high.
This clock comes close to
being a dog. The black
paint is good, the Phillips
screws do the job but are
not what I like to see in an
old clock. The gold paint is
where I have the biggest
problem. Michelangelo did
better work after he went
blind than this fellow did
with good eyes. The gold in the etched designs and on the columns is dread-
ful, and must be cleaned off, even if you do not redo the gold. The elderly
man wanted a hobby for his retirement years and unfortunately, he chose
clock restoration. Thankfully, he did not try to restore the bronze colored
dial, hands, the beveled glass, the sash, or the 8 day movement, for they are
nice. It is running but slightly out of beat. It has the correct back metal cover,
pendulum bob, and key, but the back feet are not original. Ly-Ansonia #999.
$150-$250.

$150
Early French mantle clock, ca
1865. Unusual and rare case is
wood, veneered or covered with
thin sheets of brass. The brass is
held to the wood with small brass
nails. The case is almost 15"
high, complete, and has no visi-
ble problems. The only problem I
see at all is a repaired chip on the
one piece porcelain dial, at 7
o'clock. There are also some
dirty hairlines, not sure about the
hands, but they may both be cor-
rect. The machined sash has a
bowed glass, while the back glass
is much nicer. It has a flat
beveled glass in a nicer looking
sash. The movement is round,
solid plate, permanent attached
small pendulum, unsigned, and is
running. The underneath of the
case also is covered with brass
and there is a small metal label that says, "Japy Freres & Co. / Bte.
S.G.D.G.". $300-$500.

$275
French crystal regulator, ca 1880.
10¾" brass case has slight wear
and tarnish. There are four per-
fect beveled glasses, one piece
porcelain dial is also perfect and
the pair of French hands is origi-
nal. The dial is signed, "Tiffany
& Co.". The pendulum has two
vials with live mercury, and
included is a two ended key.
Round 8 day movement, running
and striking a hanging gong on
hours and half hours. It is signed,
"H & H", and "Made in France".
$300-$500.

$225
Seth Thomas Clock Co. crystal
regulator, ca 1913. Not positive,
but I think it is the "Empire
No.1", or the "Empire No.200".
The brass case is about 9½" high,
very plain, but has four beveled
glasses. There is only one corner
chip and the pins holding the
back glass in place will need
attention. Very nice one piece
porcelain dial and correct Seth
Thomas hands and the dial is
signed. 8 day round movement is
signed, running, striking hours
and half hours on a hanging
Cathedral bell. The correct pen-
dulum and a two prong key are
included. Ly-Seth Thomas #712.
$250-$350.
