$150
French two-tone
onyx cased clock
with bronze orna-
ments, ca 1890. The
case is 16½" by
12½", has sustained
a few edge nicks, pri-
marily on the base.
On the left front cor-
ner there is a brown
vein with a chip.
Onyx with these
types of veins is
noted for coming
apart at those veins. On the base, back left, there is another chip, and a
crack where a larger piece came loose and was glued back. This retired
gentleman, bought "unusual" art objects, no matter their condition. There
are bronze ornaments on the front, bronze sash with a nice beveled glass,
bronze dial with slight wear on the painted numerals, and good French
hands. The inner dial is a perforated piece of cast bronze, over a solid
bronze back. Metal back door is perforated and cloth covered. Round
French movement is signed by the Japy Freres company. It is 8 day,
strikes a standing coil gong, and the pendulum and key are in the case.
$250-$500.

$175
French black marble case with
brown onyx and brown marble
inserts, incised designs with
faded gold fill over the front,
inverted trim sections, and some
grooved and hollowed sections,
ca 1895. The case is 16" by 11".
There is a small chink off, on the
top right side, and some small
chips on the base, overall not a
bad looking case. Full turned
brown marble columns. Porce
-
lain dial ring, brass inner dial
with French hands and Brocot
escapement. The dial ring has
dirty hairlines in the 8 to 10 sec-
tion. French, round, 8 day move-
ment, signed by the Japy Freres
company, and strikes a standing
Cathedral gong. A pendulum and
key are inside. The perforated and hinged back door is cloth covered. The
screws holding the back door to the movement straps are stripped. $200-
$400.

Ansonia Clock Co. white
onyx case, about 12" by
12", ca 1895. This stylish
case has some outstanding
appointments, i.e. the frieze
across the top, and the top
and side ornaments. Most
unusual is the dial, and a
very different inner dial
with an open escapement
arrangement I have not seen
previously,
and correct
hands. Beveled glass in the
French sash. No breaks or
large chips, only a few very
microscopic edge nicks.
Key and pendulum inside the case. 8 day signed movement, running and
striking a gong on hours and half hours. There is no back door or glass.
$300-$500.

Waterbury Clock Company /
Manufacturers of / Eight Day
and Thirty Hour / Brass
Clocks" etc, from the label
on the back of this brass
cased clock. It is 8" across
the back, about 95% of the
label is there. It has an 8 day
lever movement, double
wind, one spring may be bro-
ken or click not catching. I
am now typing with four fin-
gers, one chewed off by a
twirling key. Original paper
dial has some touchup where
paper was missing or worn, seconds dial, possibly replaced hands. Glass
held with the original putty. Ly-Waterbury #2077. $200-$300.

$250
French two
tone marble,
tambour style,
ca 1885.
Black marble
with two tone
brown marble
inserts, even
including the
dial. The
heavy case is
20" by 12½",
and nearly
perfect, for
this type case.
If you give it the glove inspection you may find a tiny edge nick some-
where, but any faults are minimal. It may not be good enough for the
Louvre Museum, but it is good enough for our museum. Note the invert-
ed portion of the base and the grooved and rolling sides and top. Beveled
glass in the bronze sash, gold painted numerals on the black marble dial
ring, and the bronze colored French hands. Round French 8 day move-
ment, bell strike, pendulum and key inside the case. The only marking on
the movement is the letter, "R". The back sash also has a beveled glass. A
very nice marble cased clock. $300-$500.
